I ALWAYS WANTED TO TRY KAYAKING!

DESCRIPTION -This event is for the real beginner - ideally someone who has never been in a kayak but always thought it would be great fun.
We'll start out with a discussion of what it takes to get into kayaking and how you can get started.
You'll practice the most basic strokes, then you'll hit the water and have a chance to try a number of kayaks.

REGISTRATION FEE $10 - Advance reservation is required. Space is limited.
WHAT TO BRING - Comfortable clothes for paddling including a windbreaker or layers. Water shoes or tennis shoes that can get wet. We recommend a change of clothing and dry shoes just in case you get wet. Cameras and phones should be in a waterproof pack with a way to secure them to your boat or left in your car.. We recommend you bring some water or other hydrating beverages. Bring a hat and/or suntan lotion.
SAFETY:
- YOU MUST WEAR A LIFEVEST WHEN ON THE WATER
- THIS IS AN ALCOHOL-FREE EVENT
- PARTICIPANTS UNDER 16 MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY A PARENT/GUARDIAN. ONE ADULT MUST BE IN EACH CANOE.
- CELL PHONES WILL NOT BE PERMITTED DURING THE EVENT.
DEMO DAY! is held at Henderson-Gladstone Recreation Area, near Gladstone, Illinois. Gladstone Lake is located 8.4 miles east of Burlington, Iowa. Drive Hwy 34 to 1550 N by Gladstone, Illinois. Look for our white van with signs at the turn. The lake is located one mile north of the turn.
Gladstone Recreation Area has camping (as long as you like geese and trains) available. No running water.
We recommend following this event with our Introduction to Kayaking on July 13 or August 24 where you will learn more strokes and have one-on-one instruction time.
